ODM Party Secures Another Top Official Nomination to William Ruto’s Cabinet.

The ODM party has had another of its officials getting a nomination into the Cabinet.

State House Nairobi on Tuesday, July 30, announced the appointment of Beatrice Askul Moe as the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community Affairs (EAC) and Regional Development.

Askul, until her nomination to Cabinet, served in the ODM party’s national elections coordinating committee, which replaced the defunct National Elections Board (NEB).

Askul is regarded as a prolific social scientist and a consultant, having previously served as Turkana county executive member in charge of Water, Irrigation, Agriculture, and Land Reclamation.

She also had a stint with, among other institutions, the Rift Valley Water Services Board, where she served as the technical committee director.

Askul joins four other ODM ranking officials who got a call-up into the National Executive.

Ruto proposed that ODM party national chairman John Mbadi be the National Treasury Cabinet secretary and the party’s deputy party leaders, Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, be the Cabinet secretaries for Mining and Co-operatives, respectively.

Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, ODM’s political affairs chief, was nominated into the Energy Ministry.

The officials’ appointment to the government occasioned disquiet in the Orange party, with secretary general Edwin Sifuna clarifying that the party’s leadership did not bless the nominations.

While expressing doubts about the need for the quartet to join the government, Sifuna said they took up the nominations in their capacities.

He said their joining of government would not connote the opposition outfit getting into a power-sharing arrangement with the government.

Sifuna’s position was underscored by Raila who stated that the nominations of his allies did not imply ODM joining the government or there being a coalition government.
