“There Are Serious Moves”: Wiper MP Warns Rigathi Gachagua Could Soon Be Impeached.
Kitui Central Member of Parliament Makali Mulu has said that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may be impeached soon.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, August 6, Mulu said a section of Mt Kenya MPs had made serious moves regarding the motion to impeach Gachagua.
The Wiper MP advised the deputy president to prepare himself to face an impeachment motion soon.
“The deputy president, and what I was saying is this, where there is smoke, some, even if you don’t see the fire, there is a fire somewhere, what is happening is that the DP needs to prepare himself because I’ve not been asked to sign but I can tell you for sure there are moves. There are serious moves,” Mulu said.
According to the Wiper lawmaker, the impeachment motion centers around the supremacy battle between Gachagua and a section of MPs from the Mt Kenya region.
He argued that the MPs are determined to impeach Gachagua as a way of teaching him a lesson that he cannot influence their re-election in 2027.
Mulu pointed out that the new working relationships between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga have complicated Gachagua’s troubles.
“Now, looking at the numbers which they have as members of parliament from central Kenya, looking at UDA MPs and looking at how the working relationship between ODM and UDA, I can tell you the DP case is closed. So he has to prepare,” he added.
Meanwhile, the deputy president spoke about the alleged plans by a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders to file an impeachment motion against him.
During an interview on vernacular radio stations in Mt Kenya region on Sunday, August 4, Gachagua said he was aware of the planned impeachment.
According to Gachagua, his firm stand regarding the unity of the Mt Kenya region, including fighting for their rights in the government, was behind his troubles.
