Opiyo Wandayi undertakes the first assignment As Energy CS in Murang’a.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi on Friday embarked on his first official assignment in Murang’a since he was appointed.
Wandayi who was sworn in on Thursday alongside 18 other CSs was among the top state officials accompanying President William Ruto in his tour of the county.
Ruto was at the county to launch several development projects which included the last mile connectivity project.
Wandayi was seen receiving Ruto at a homestead at Kirungu village for the launch of the project.
“Waziri, uko area?…your first assignment here?” Ruto said as they happily shook hands with the CS.
At Kirungu, some 50 new customers are set to be connected.
While addressing residents in Kiriani town, Ruto stated that the government will spend Sh1 billion and targets to connect new 15,000 households to power.
“Nimekuja hapa na waziri anaitwa Opiyo Wandayi, ataanza kusukuma hiyo kazi,” (I have come here with a new CS Opiyo Wandayi and he will help me push that work),” he said.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Roads Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, and Governor Irungu Kangata among several other leaders were also present.
The Head of State who also addressed residents at Kambirwa in Kiharu disclosed he will make further changes in the new KCC to have a new team that is responsive to the needs of the farmers and address challenges in the sector.
While pledging his commitment to ensuring an increase in milk prices for all farmers across the country, Ruto said he has already appointed new board members.
“I have brought in new directors because those who were there were giving me problems. I am also going to make changes in the management,” he said.
“We want milk farmers to be paid Sh50 for a liter, brokers and transporters, cooperatives; and those others will share Sh3,” he said.
On the tea prices, Ruto urged to continue steering reforms in the subsector for the benefit of the smallholder farmers.
He stated that this year, farmers will earn a total of Sh210 billion pay from the KTDA up from Sh170 billion they received last year.
Mau Mau road, Ruto said the government has allocated Sh1 billion for its completion.
