Kalonzo Musyoka Announces Plan to Vie for Presidency in 2027.
While speaking at the Akamba Cultural Festival in Mombasa on Saturday, August 31, Kalonzo said all parties affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja Coalition agreed he should run for president in 2027 on the coalition’s ticket.
“They’ve said that the leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement will vie for the president’s seat in 2027 within Azimio. On that matter, people have agreed,” he disclosed.
He also announced the coalition has all agreed to name him the country’s official opposition leader.
Kalonzo further asserted that the coalition has no plan to join the Kenya Kwanza government.
He used the opportunity to urge opposition politicians to stay resolute and hold the government accountable.
This follows Kalonzo’s vow to take over the leadership of the Azimio.
During a press briefing in Embu on Sunday, August 18, Kalonzo said ODM leader Raila Odinga will not be allowed to continue leading the opposition after joining hands with President William Ruto.
According to Kalonzo, Raila cannot continue leading Azimio la Umoja, yet his party has ‘joined’ the broad-based government. At the same time, the former vice president said the ODM party should not continue to hold minority leadership in the National Assembly.
Meanwhile, the cracks within the coalition widened after Jeremiah Kioni denied Raila’s allegations that former president Uhuru Kenyatta was involved in forming Ruto’s broad-based government.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, August 14, Kioni stated that Uhuru’s stance is that he cannot be involved in a government that has allegedly caused significant havoc in the country.
