Senator Karungo Thang’wa Clashes With Ichung’wah Refuting His Claims On Cabinet Appointments.
Senator Karungo Thang’wa has denied claims made by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah that President William Ruto consulted with county MPs before appointing the new Agriculture Cabinet Secretary.
In his remarks, Ichung’wah claims President Ruto asked Kiambu MPs to help him find work at the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to Thang’wa, Ichung’wah’s claim that county legislators were involved is misleading.
He insisted that he was not consulted and did not receive an invitation to participate in any such process.
The Kiambu senator added that if he had been part of the process, he would not have proposed the current CS for Agriculture because he does not know him.
“As an MP representing Kiambu County as their Senator, I want to clarify that I was not consulted in selecting the new Cabinet Secretary from our county, nor was I invited to participate in that process.
“It is misleading for the Kikuyu MP to suggest that all Kiambu MPs were involved. If I had been consulted, I would not have proposed the current CS for Agriculture, as I am unfamiliar with him,” Thang’wa said.
He added that, just as the Opposition party suggested well-known individuals, he would have done the same from Kiambu County if he had been involved in the process.
He went on to name some of the people he would have recommended from the county.
“While ODM put forward notable names such as Joho, Oparanya, Bandi, and Wandayi, I could have recommended prominent figures from Kiambu, including Moses Kuria, Kabogo, Waititu, Nyoro, Maara, Waikenda, Jungle, Wakanyi, etc.
“In summary, I did not attend the meeting organized by Ichung’wah regarding the selection process for Kiambu.”
In an undated video, Ichung’wah is seen addressing a crowd in Kikuyu.
He then claims that it was the MPs who went looking for Andrew Karanja and submitted his name to the President.
“When President Ruto was forming a new cabinet, he called us MPs from Kiambu, he said, go find someone for me and we will give him the job at the Ministry of Agriculture,” Ichung’wah said.
“All of us MPs from Kiambu went to look for Dr. Karanja and we gave him to Ruto and he made him a minister.”
