NPSC Releases Full Changes For New Police Officers Salaries.

The National Service Police Commission (NSPC) announced on Thursday an increase in police officer salaries, which will result in law enforcement officers earning more than they currently do.

NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia announced at a press conference on Thursday that police constables will receive a Ksh4,000 bonus ranging from Ksh21,645 to Ksh25,645.

The increase comes after consultations with the National Police Service (NPS), during which Acting Inspector General Masengeli recommended promotions and salary increases for his officers.

Constables:

The longest-serving constable will receive a minimum monthly gross salary (including allowances) of Ksh 21,645 up to Ksh25,645.

According to the new review, the longest-serving constable will receive a minimum monthly gross salary (including all allowances) of Ksh50,145 and a maximum of Ksh69,640.

A constable who has progressed through the ranks and served for more than 20 years can earn a maximum of Ksh69,640.

The chair revealed that police officers on peacekeeping missions will be paid similarly.

Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG):

At the same time, the chair announced that senior assistant Inspector Generals of Police will receive an increase of Ksh21,026 from Ksh200,899 to Ksh221,915, which is equivalent to Ksh21,026 more.

The longest-serving Senior Assistant Inspector General will earn between Ksh310,725 and Ksh409,365 while serving within the structure’s twenty notches.

The senior assistant general is the highest-ranking member of the commission’s non-state officer corps.

The National Police allows police officers to receive up to twenty notches in salary increments per year.

Police officers begin at notch one, which pays Ksh25,645 per year, and are moved to notch two the following year, where officers serve if promotion is not granted.

“Even without promotions and change of ranks, we give incremental notches every year.”

The chair also stated that they had received complaints about stagnation from some long-serving officers.

“The National Police Service Commission noted there are police officers who have served in the rank of police constable for more than 30 years and their discipline records are clean,” the chair explained.

“This means they have stagnated for not any fault on their part.”

Following a review, the commission has recommended merit-based promotions for police officers aged 53 to 59 who have no disciplinary history.

So far, the commission has approved the promotion of 1,957 officers, including 87 females aged 53 to 59.
