Protest Outside Milimani Law Courts, Demand Activist’s Morara Release
Lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso’s arrest has sparked reactions from many Kenyans.
The fearless political activist was taken into custody by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Monday, September 30, at his office in Kahawa Sukari along Thika Road.
He is scheduled to appear at Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday, October 1, where prominent leaders, including Eugene Wamalwa, Willis Otieno, Jubilee secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni, and Narc-Kenya’s Martha Karua, have arrived in support.
Morara has been an outspoken critic of the government, particularly regarding stalled projects and initiatives that were launched with significant funding but have yet to commence. However, the reason for his arrest remains unclear.
Ahead of this anticipated session, a group of Kenyans assembled outside the court to protest, demanding his release.
They chanted freedom songs for the beloved activist, who has played a crucial role in holding the government accountable in recent months.
“Free Morara… We are tired. Wakenya msilale lale lale Wakenya msilale…Bado mapambano mapambano mapambano…” they sang.
Earlier, the activist had expressed concerns for his safety following a serious road crash in Embu.
Morara was returning to Nairobi from his activism duties when an allegedly drunk driver lost control, swerved off the road, and collided with his vehicle.
According to Morara, the driver fled the scene, leaving behind his damaged car, which heightened his fears for his safety.
