Wiper Senator Files Censure Motion Against William Ruto For Violating Constitution
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo has filed a censure motion against President William Ruto in the Senate.
On Tuesday, October 1, the Wiper senator filed the motion to discuss the head of state’s conduct, arguing that he has contravened the constitution.
In the motion, Maanzo accused Ruto of failing to address key issues and challenges facing Kenyans.
In his motion, the senator wants Ruto censured over his recent treatment of protestors during the anti-government protests in Nairobi.
Maanzo argued that the president failed to protect the lives of Kenyans during the anti-government protests despite being the Chair of the National Security Council.
‘’CONCERNED THAT Article 25(a) (c) provides for rights and fundamental freedoms which CANNOT be limited; the right to freedom from torture and cruel, inhuman treatment or degrading treatment or punishment, right to fair trial bearing in mind the recent abductions, torture, and disappearances of Kenyans,’’ Maanzo stated in the motion.
The Wiper senator further claimed that Ruto’s administration has crippled devolution by failing to ensure timely disbursement of equitable share to the counties to facilitate the delivery of services.
Earlier, the Makueni senator claimed that an impeachment motion would be filed against Ruto if his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, is removed from office.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Monday, September 23, the Wiper senator argued that Ruto and Gachagua were elected together, and if DP’s impeachment succeeds, they will table another to send the president home.
According to Maanzo, the second in command is unfairly being targeted by Kenya Kwanza Alliance lawmakers.
The senator stated that Gachagua has done nothing wrong that can warrant his impeachment.
The Wiper senator argued that Ruto had breached the 2010 Constitution more and should be impeached, not Gachagua.
