Tight Security At DCI Ahead Of Gachagua Appearance
Police trucks equipped with crowd-control gear are stationed outside the DCI compound with officers patrolling the surroundings.
Officers are seen patrolling the area aided by sniffer dogs that are supplementing the cordon.
Speaking on Sunday after being discharged from the Karen Hospital where he had been hospitalized since Thursday, Gachagua claimed that there were two failed assassination attempts on his life before the impeachment plan was hatched.
“On August 30, in Kisumu, undercover security agents entered my room and bugged it and one of them tried to poison my food, but we detected it and were able to escape the scheme.
I was supposed to be killed by food poisoning,” Gachagua said.
According to the former DP, he escaped the two assassination attempts because his team detected attempts to poison his food.
Gachagua claimed that the second attempt was by officers from the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
He said he reported both incidents to authorities.
Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin on Monday asked Gachagua to appear at the DCI headquarters to record a statement regarding the claims.
“These are serious allegations emanating from a person of your stature and cannot be taken lightly,” the DCI boss said in a statement signed by J.K Marete.
Gachagua was expected to appear in the morning to record his statement but he appears to have prioritised a court case at the Milimani Law Courts regarding his impeachment.
A three-judge bench hearing the matter clarified that the matter before them was not one filed by the embattled former DP in which he has challenged his impeachment.
The judges said the file before them is on multiple applications filed online challenging his attempt to reverse the impeachment using the judicial process.
Justices Eric Ogolla, Anthony Mrima, and Freda Mugambi at some point adjourned the session after Gachagua’s counsel questioned the empanelment of the bench to hear his challenge on the impeachment.
