Waiguru said the country is stunned by the spate of mysterious deaths that are being reported across the nation every day.
The governor further asked investigating agencies to speed up the probe and to bring to book those involved in the killings to stop further escalation.
Waiguru was speaking during the burial ceremony of Seth Nyakio, the daughter of Kirinyaga nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Lucy Njeri, who was found murdered at Biafra estate in Thika town on October 14.
She described the late Nyakio as a “happy and loving girl” who did not deserve such kind of death.
Nyakio was found murdered in a rented room in Thika, where she had traveled to see a friend. She even shared a photo of herself with friends on Sunday before requesting Sh1,000 from her mother, who promptly sent the money.
The following day, Nyakio was found dead, with post-mortem results confirming strangulation as the cause of death. Preliminary investigations revealed that she was also sexually assaulted.
The governor said the endless killings of young people being reported across the country every day must be stopped at all costs.
“We are very concerned about the high level of femicide in our country, we must put these killings to a stop. We should not be losing our young people because of crime and femicide,” she said.
Waiguru said killers of the young souls should not be let to get away with their deaths but should be arrested and punished for their actions.
“We don’t just want to see action being taken but we want to see these killings stopped. We pray and hope that this death will be the last one,” she added.
She said that there are very many questions that remain unanswered regarding Nyakio’s killing.
“How did it happen and the area is so crowded, how come no one heard despite the house where Nyakio was murdered having more than 30 people in the neighborhood?” Waiguru posed.
Waiguru asked local leaders to take a proactive role in fighting crime and making residential areas safer.
On her part, Njeri said the killers of her daughter are still on the loose despite having provided crucial information that could lead to their arrest.
The MCA said she will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to book.
