In a statement, the State House said the two leaders discussed matters of national and regional importance and underscored the importance of cultivating a nationalistic, patriotic, and harmonious working relationship among all Kenyans and stakeholders.
“President Ruto took the opportunity to reiterate his appreciation and commendation of His Excellency President Kenyatta’s statesmanship in overseeing the peaceful transfer of power after the 2022 elections, as well as the goodwill the former President has continued to demonstrate toward his fellow leaders and his support for Kenya’s ongoing progress and development,” the statement read in part.
It added that the two leaders acknowledged the challenging global environment affecting many countries, including Kenya, caused by a complex of factors.
Duale who spoke in Wajir during the closing ceremony of the three-day pastoralist leadership summit where he had accompanied President Ruto said that the President has demonstrated time and again that he was willing to work with all leaders to build one united country.
“On the unity for the people of Kenya, you will into history as the only president who said regardless of where you come from, political or social status or religious affiliation or the county that come from, Kenya is one and the people must be treated as one,” he said.
“We are so proud of you, yesterday you drove to former president Uhuru Kenyatta and you have reached out to the former Prime Minister. We encourage you to reach out to all leaders so that every leader whether in position or government, we agree on one thing so that Kenya can move forward.”
Duale further commended the President for doing everything to restore peace and security in the eastern parts of Rift Valley that had experienced insecurity.
“Since you become the President, there has been peace and tranquillity and security in the pastoral areas. The five counties that border Somalia and Ethiopia used to have serious security threats internally and externally but that is no longer the case,” he said.
