Odede will be buried at her family home in Ruma Village, Uyoma Katwenga in Siaya County.

Announcing the date, her family said further details regarding the funeral arrangements will be shared at a later date.

Odede passed away on Friday, January 3, after a short illness, which her family said she bravely bore.

The Commission Vice Chairperson Raymond Nyeris in his message of condolences to her family, prayed that memories of her exceptional service would bring comfort and strength in this difficult time.

“Her untimely death is a big blow to the Commission and the Nation at large. As a Commission, we had the privilege of serving with Roseline Odede as the Chairperson at the helm of the KNCHR’s leadership,” Nyeris added.

The KNCHR requested Kenyans to join in celebrating the life and legacy of their late Chairperson, whose commitment to human rights will continue to inspire the Commission’s work.

Roseline was the wife of Dr Joram (Jorry) Odede and the mother of Clara Odede and Diane Odede.

Odede was an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Certified Mediator, Arbitrator, and Social and Environmental Impact Auditor and Assessor.

She previously served as the Vice Chairperson of the Judges Magistrates and Vetting Board and was a nationally recognized expert in gender, governance, policy, and human rights.

Odede was also specially recognized by the East Africa Law Society, a regional organization, for distinguished legal practice and service.

She has held several leadership positions in several professional societies, including the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, East Africa Law Society, Law Society of Kenya, and FIDA Kenya.

President William Ruto led other leaders in mourning the Odede.

In his statement of condolence, President Ruto said he was deeply saddened by Odede’s death.

Ruto said Odede was a formidable human rights champion and a distinguished campaigner for a more equal and fairer society.

“Our thoughts and love are with the family at this sorrowful moment. Rest In Peace, Roseline,” Ruto said on his official X account.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki described Odede as a profound and dedicated legal professional and an unapologetic advocate for the rights and freedoms of all people.
