While opening Liter Girls’ Secondary School, which has been closed due to floods and insecurity, Ruto directed Cabinet Secretary for EAC ASALS and Regional Development Beatrice Askul to provide food to the institution, including nine others.
The schools are spread across the counties in the Kerio Valley Belt and comprise Turkana, West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, and Samburu.
They are set to benefit from the program to cushion the conflict-ravaged communities and enable students to resume their normal lives.
While receiving the foodstuffs, the school’s Principal Annoline Kitum thanked President Ruto for considering the institution among the 10 schools in the five counties of the Kerio Valley Belt to benefit from the program.
She noted that many students in the school were from poor family backgrounds whose livestock had been stolen because of cattle rustling incidents that had been witnessed in the region in the recent past.
Kitum argued that the recent landslide that affected the area, leading to the relocation of the school to a new location, had also affected crops, subjecting farmers to untold suffering.
“We sincerely like to thank President Ruto for what he has done for our school and the region in general. The directive he made on good provisions has been implemented. His coming to our school was a blessing to the community here,” said Kitum.
Ruto, while at the institution early this month, said the commissioning of Liter Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet marks a fresh beginning for a community that turned devastation into hope.
“This rebuilt school is now the region’s center of excellence, equipping students with the skills and opportunities to take their place in transforming Kenya. It stands as a powerful testament to resilience, unity, and the transformative power of education,” said Ruto.
The Head of State noted that the government has allocated KSh100 million to rebuild other schools in the region to ensure all children return to class.
