On Sunday, January 19, during an Interdenominational Prayer event at Cheptais Boys’ High School in Bungoma County, Wanyama made remarks that were deemed discriminatory and could affect the peaceful coexistence of communities.

According to the NCIC, these remarks incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence, or discrimination and affect harmonious coexistence between groups of different political affiliations in Kenya.

This summon comes just a few days after the NCIC sounded alarm over the huge number of politicians who had resorted to making hateful speeches at public rallies.

During a press conference on January 23, the commission called for the criminal summonses of at least 10 MPs who had recently.

The NCIC Vice Chairperson Wambui Nyutu stated that they had concluded investigations against the accused lawmakers including Oscar Sudi, Farah Maalim, and Dan Wanyama, and forwarded their files to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) calling for their arrest.

“We have even completed our investigations and forwarded the files to DCI and if the DCI does take the next step which is to arrest and charge these criminals and the DPP takes them to court and there is prosecution, we will have made progress.”

For his remarks concerning the Gen Z protests and abductions, MP Maalim was booted out of the Wiper Democratic Movement and stripped of his Deputy Party Leader position.
