Man Found Dead In Riverbed In Machakos
Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia, confirming the incident, said the body was found dumped in the said area on Monday.
“The unidentified body was moved to the City Mortuary,” Lobolia said.
Lobolia spoke to the Star by phone hours after the body was removed from the scene.
Multiple sources told the Star that the body was discovered at the scene at about 2.30 p.m. The body’s discovery led to a traffic snarl along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway as some motorists stopped and joined other members of the public in the scene where they milled to see the body.
It’s not clear who first spotted the body before raising an alarm, making the general public wary of its existence at the riverbed that is several meters from the highway.
The photo obtained by the Star shows the deceased lying on his back with one of his legs tied using a cloth before it was removed from the scene.
He was bare-chested with only long trousers on and marks on his neck and leg. Witnesses said the deceased might have been dumped at the scene after he was murdered elsewhere.
The body was discovered a few days after the second body of one of the three men who went missing from the Mlolongo area was found at the Nairobi Funeral Home (formerly City Mortuary).
The body of Martin Mwau was found at the mortuary in the same place where Mutumwa Musyoki was discovered. It also emerged that the bodies were delivered to the mortuary on December 17, a day after their abduction from the Mlolongo area.
The family of the deceased identified Mwau’s body at the mortuary, and they were informed the body was picked up from the Mowlem area in the city.
The fingerprints of the deceased were picked and confirmed to be his on Wednesday, January 29. The body of Justus Mutumwa Musyimi was earlier found in the Ruai area before it was moved to the mortuary.
