Night Fire In Langata Destroys 200 Houses
The fire whose cause is yet to be determined, is said to have razed several residential houses and shops in the area.
No casualties were reported during the incident.
Member of Parliament for Langata, Phelix Odiwuor, who disseminated a video clip of the fire, stated that the blaze was subsequently contained by the firefighting units from the city.
“The fire was contained, and everyone is safe. Pray for Langata as we start the process of rebuilding Soweto,” he said.
This is not the first time a fire has broken out in the area.
In July last year, a fire said to have started due to an electric fault that destroyed several structures rendering dozens of people homeless.
Several people were injured during the incident as locals dashed to their houses to salvage belongings.
Security officers have since launched investigations to establish what may have started it.
