In the latest survey report released Tuesday by research firm Infotrak, Murang’a scored 52 percent followed by Homa Bay at 51 percent.
Kirinyaga and Trans Nzoia tied at position three with a 48 percent approval rating; Nyeri, Kisii, and Kisumu tied at 47 percent performance rating.
The survey, conducted between October and December 2024, sampled 36,200 Kenyans across all counties.
The survey covered 12 core devolved functions among them health, agriculture, education, energy, water, roads and transport, environment, trade and tourism, housing, planning, and development.
Kirinyaga had the best performance in almost all the sectors after ranking third in health, trade and tourism, roads and transport, water and sanitation, social services, and planning.
It also ranked in the top 10 positions in agriculture, education, sports and culture, lands and settlements, and housing.
Governor Anne Waiguru said the rankings reflect the county’s commitment to better education, infrastructure, quality healthcare, improved water access, and general empowerment of the people.
“We have worked consistently, and you can see the numbers have been improving, I want to thank my team for the effort that they have put in. Numbers don’t lie and residents of Kirinyaga appreciate the work we have been doing,” Waiguru said.
She said counties have their challenges among them inadequate resources, but asked fellow governors to continue prioritising development.
The CountyTrak Index 2024, is a nationwide survey that evaluates public perception of county governments’ performance.
The results show that 73 percent of Kirinyaga residents believe the county has improved since the introduction of devolution in 2013.
Furthermore, 63 percent feel that the current county government under Governor Waiguru is performing better than the previous administration.
Governor Waiguru said her administration has focused on key development pillars that have significantly improved the livelihoods of Kirinyaga residents.
In the agriculture sector, Waiguru attributed the success to the Wezesha Kirinyaga program, which has empowered farmers through initiatives in tomato, fish, avocado, and beekeeping value chains.
The program has also increased agricultural productivity and market access for farmers.
Waiguru said investment in healthcare, including the expansion of Kerugoya County Referral Hospital and, the construction of 20 dispensaries and maternity wards has ensured better medical services for residents.
The county has also improved access to quality and affordable healthcare through better-equipped facilities and an increased workforce.
