However, according to Osoro, the late Were started acting suspiciously later in the day. The MP is said to have isolated himself in to corner of the National Assembly chambers.
“That morning, before the honourable were passed on. I and the MP for Ruiru were training at the gym. He was in high spirits, telling us how he wanted to run about the politics of the day,” Osoro detailed.
Despite happily interacting with his peers, Were started acting differently during a National Assembly sitting, with his odd behaviour conspicuous enough for all to see, according to Osoro.
He added, “But of course, later he sat alone at the corner. From about 4 pm. He didn’t look okay. He looked disturbed. Any person who passed by would agree that he wasn’t the normal Were that we all knew.”
While hailing Were as a noble leader, Osoro also made it clear that the late MP barely had any issues with any of his colleagues.
The late Were was fatally shot on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, shortly after leaving Parliament. He was in the company of his driver and his bodyguard, who came out of the ordeal unscathed.
Initially, four suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting. The four were linked to the ‘Mjahidin’ gang.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since revealed that two more suspects were apprehended, after which they led detectives to a house where firearms were recovered.
“A bag and footwear matching the description of those worn by one of the suspects at the scene of the incident were also recovered. All items have been submitted for forensic examination,” the DCI revealed on Wednesday.
Among the additional suspects being pursued by the DCI is a police officer, believed to have been key in the killing.
On Tuesday, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula also condemned Were’s shooting, as he called for speedy investigations into the matter.
